Start with your experience.
Paid work is one source of evidence. Relevant examples may also come from community leadership, organizing, caregiving, education, volunteering or mutual aid. Name the context accurately and give shared work fair credit.
Use the prompts in writing, aloud or with someone you trust. Skip any prompt that is not useful. You decide what personal circumstances or identities to disclose.
1. Choose one real contribution
Pick one project, recurring responsibility or challenge from work or another relevant part of your experience. What needed to improve?
Example: New hires received different onboarding information depending on the manager.
2. Name your ownership
What did you personally decide, build, coordinate or change? Separate your contribution from the team’s.
Try: I created… I introduced… I coordinated…
3. Find the evidence
What changed? Use a verified number if you have one; otherwise describe an observable result. What record or example supports it?
Do not invent percentages, team sizes or financial results. A concrete process improvement, reduced access barrier, stronger collaboration or community-informed outcome can be useful evidence.
4. Draft the bullet
Combine action + scope or method + supported result. Remove phrases such as “responsible for.”
Template: [Action] [what / for whom] by [how], resulting in [verified change]. Omit the result clause if you cannot support it.
5. Read it like an interviewer
Is your ownership clear? Is the wording accurate? Can you explain every claim and number out loud?
Final check: relevant to the target role, specific enough to discuss, and written in your own voice.
