Start with your experience.
Paid work is one source of evidence. Relevant examples may also come from community leadership, organizing, caregiving, education, volunteering or mutual aid. Name the context accurately and give shared work fair credit.
Use the prompts in writing, aloud or with someone you trust. Skip any prompt that is not useful. You decide what personal circumstances or identities to disclose.
1. Choose your five stories
List one example each: leading change, solving a problem, collaborating through disagreement, managing competing priorities, and learning from a setback.
Keep confidential names and details out of your notes.
2. Set the scene
Pick one story. What was happening, what was at stake, and what were you accountable for?
Keep context short so there is room for your actions.
3. Explain your choices
What did you do? Why that approach? What alternatives or tradeoffs did you consider?
Make your contribution clear and credit collective work. Both individual decisions and collaborative leadership count.
4. Describe the result and learning
What changed, how do you know, and what would you do differently now?
If you do not have a metric, give a specific, accurate qualitative outcome.
5. Practice the follow-up
Practice the answer aloud, in writing or with a trusted partner. Then answer: What was hardest? Who disagreed? How would this experience help in the target role?
Aim for a focused opening answer; save extra detail for follow-up questions. Repeat this sheet for your other stories.
